Introduction-
Firstly, our social action was very different to a typical Social Action Campaign. Our group wanted to make it very different because we looked at the themes and topics included in our project and looked at similar campaigns and decided that they all use to same format and typical conventions, we wanted to go down a different path by making our Social Action Video stand out, this was important for us because by changing the way Social Action Campaigns are set out we can influences other campaigns can do the same. We started by planning out a linear narrative because we thought by using this technique it would differentiate our project from others.
After our project had been edited and uploaded we decided to ask people for there opinions ans reviews, we felt this was important because we wanted to get the opinions of close friends and people we work with because they will give us honesty and they will tell us how we can improve in future projects. We got a lot of feedback that when we looked back it as a group we thought the feedback we received would put us in good stead come future projects, The first piece of helpful feedback was that in some parts, mainly with music the audio doesn't fit the themes of our narrative and doesn't work well, we asked for an example of this and they said, the scene of the character killing himself, although the music is filled with suspense and provides the audience with some nervousness, but the music could have been replaced with something that fit the mood a little bit more and a piece of music that would link with the narrative E.G - A meaningful song with lyrics based on themes linked in to our narrative. We took this into consideration and tried multiple songs with that scene but we decided that the best music and the music we liked the most was the music to begin with, we thought this because we enjoyed the scene with that music and also we got some criticism that the scene was cheesy with that music or sounded like a horror and wasn't portraying the narrative in a correct way, we thought about changing it but went with the music we had chosen from the start because we as a group decided that it was best for the scene. Whilst making our film, we tried our hardest to not have any continuity errors involved in our shooting process, but sometimes they cannot be helped, one criticism was one continuity error, during the one scene i don't have a phone in my hand (when jumping of a bridge) but in another shot (when i land from jumping off the bridge) i have the phone in my hand, this was included because we had original and different ideas about how to film this shot, we kept this shot in because it wasn't a big enough error to cut it out and not many people noticed it, we also didn't cu it out because it actually worked with the narrative and as a group we thought it was good. In my next group we will try our hardest to make sure that there are no audio issues and continuity errors and will make sure that next time to target audience enjoys our audio and music choice and make sure the audio cannot find any continuity errors in our work. Furthermore, these choices that we made could effect our work dramatically, if we was making this for a huge company and the target audience didn't enjoy the music or found problems like continuity errors in our work, there could be huge problems for the company in terms of financial success and popularity, for example if things like that were to go wrong with the campaign there credibility would go down drastically because the target audience as well as the audience in general wouldn't trust them to come through in a project and finish it to a good enough standard. We took this information in and talked about if they made the right criticisms and thought we actually did very well to only get two big criticism's , we felt this was a compliment to our work because it implies that they were more things to talk about in good terms than bad terms. When talking about the opinions, we felt that the had made the right choices when criticising the work because looking back maybe the audio could have changed to something more fitting and we shouldn't have been lazy and re should have done re-shooting to cut the continuity error out.
My team that i worked with throughout this project were extremely good. we all worked together to get everything done, pre and post production and made sure that everything that we needed was already planned out and sorted, normally within a group there can be arguments, whether it is a disagreement when filming or ideas may clash, during our group talks and when talking about different ideas we had, none of us argued and we all listened to each other, we felt this was the best way because then we can all give our arguments to why we should use a certain idea or a certain camera shot. I feel we worked together better than most groups is because we are all friends, this helped us a lot because we was not only used to working with each other but also it didn't feel like a working environment, it was a fun environment to be in where we worked hard but also had fun. This is what separates us from other groups because, although you got to choose your groups, i feel other groups may not have got on with each as well as us three did in our group. It was very important for us to understand each other and for all of us to listen to each other or this project wouldn't work at all. When sharing work out between us, i think that this helped us a lot because we all knew what we was doing and what our responsibilities were in terms of production work, this was important because it meant everybody in the group had something to do and they was contributing towards the production.
I feel they were many pros rather than cons in our production, i am confident in this because our production was fantastic and we tried our hardest to make it the best we could. A few opinions we got back from our production was the camera shots we used throughout, a specific shot caught the eye of many viewers and they didn't fail to tell us how much they enjoyed it, the specific shot was when the main character committed suicide and we got given a lot of praise on how well the shot was done and the creativity and thought that went into making this shot realistic, When we was thinking of our idea we took time to talk about camera shots and techniques that could be possibly used throughout and one of the shots one of us suggested that was very popular was the use of green screen, we had some difficulty thinking of how to do certain shots such as the suicide scene because we was thinking of how to do it creatively and realistically, we decided that a fast POV zoom shot would make up a part of the shot, with the characters hands overplayed on a green screen this would make up part 2 of creating this shot in this scene, this was actually very easy to execute when we was filming it which was a surprise due to it taking us a long time to come up with an alternative to how big budget films would film this shot. Leading up to the climax of the film, we use a scene that includes slow motion, at first we didn't include this in the first draft, after getting some feedback from different people we thought adding this would make our production have some dynamic and make it very different to other projects in the class, after we edited it together with the slow motion, we decided that it worked perfectly by building up tension and making the audience nervous for what he is going to do next. We also thought it worked well because we think the slow motion is what is happening in the characters mind and the whole world is slowing down for him in his last moments of life, we thought this was clever to add because it can then show the audience what it is like to be in the mind of a bully victim and to see his thought process and what victims go through. The next piece of feedback we got was about our editing, as i said before the audio editing didn't fit the narrative but they're still some positives to take out of the editing such as the excellent editing with the green screen and how well done it is, but also the overlay work with the text messages, again, in our first draft we didn't have the overlay text messages, we got some feedback on the first draft and everybody we asked thought it would be a great idea if we included the text message overlay into out video, they thought this because it would make the video not only better looking but gives the video a sense of realism, with the texts on the screen at the same time as the characters, you could see how the characters are reacting to being bullied but it also takes you away from the main character and helps you focus on something else for a while, we also thought it fit the narrative well an looked unbelievably professional, it proved to be quite easy and was simple to do as an overlay. When editing the sound we thought it was vital to add realistic sound effects that would fit what is happening at that certain time, so sound effects was huge for us to get right, sometimes in productions editors get the sound effects wrong an it ruins the whole scene or possibly the whole movie, for example if a gun sound effects doesn't fit the gun it takes away from the scene it fails to deliver to the audience. We needed to get great sound effects because our production focused on realism and one way to do that is for the production to sound realistic, we gathered a lot of sounds and tried many of them, we came to a decision and chose the ones we liked and added them in.
Comparision:
Firstly, i will be comparing my production to another from the class, i feel this will be good because i can compare techniques to the techniques used in my production. Just before i start i want to credit all of the productions and ideas that were created and this is strictly my opinion.
I will be comparing my production to Lucy's, Toms and Chloe's production on LGBT Campaign, i can say they're many good things with this campaign because there is, there idea is nice, vibrant and is awesome on paper, i love there idea in terms of how they tried too execute it by making it happy and how they don't follow the typical convention of a typical campaign that goes down the road of a sad narrative or dark message, this campaign shows what LGBT can do and the positive effects gay pride can/has had on people's lives, throughout the campaign there are interviews with Bisexual or Gay people, i like this idea because i don't think any other group thought about doing interviews, this was a clever idea because it allows the audience to connect with the people involved in the campaign, i thought this was the strongest part of there campaign, i really liked the idea of being able to meet people who lead different life styles to me, i wanted to understand what they go through and there story, after watching there campaign it made me feel more connected and helped me understand what they go through on a daily basis ans also there stories.
Now the negatives, firstly i have to mention the editing, some of it is terrible such as the 'scale to frame size' which they didn't fix, this is disappointing because little faults like this stop it from becoming a great campaign, and also makes it look very unprofessional, not just to media students but to anybody who watches the video, i feel with the editing they could have took a little bit more time to just make sure the small things were fixed before exporting the final product, that would be my biggest advice. I actually think they're quite a few more positives though such as the camera angles they have used where the person talking doesn't always talk directly into the camera, i think this is good because although it is typical, it fits this campaign perfectly and lets the audience understand that the interview is more just like a friendly conversation. Adding to this the stock footage is 50/50 in my opinion, although it works when sending a message like in this campaign and also helps to convey there message about LGBT and how well supported it is, but seems too easy and the group relies heavily on the stock footage to make the campaign work. I think the music they included into the video worked amazingly and gave the audience a sense of happiness and not sadness like my campaign and a few others, this is what i feel was strong about this campaign it didn't follow the typical conventions of a campaign, this is why i feel the happy music was a great addition because it took us away from the sad or upsetting campaigns.
I feel in terms of little things that could be improved on were things such as camera focus on the interviews, editing techniques, less reliant on footage that already exists and for the group to include some factual information to inform the target audience on LGBT a bit more, adding to this they didn't focus on all of LGBT which i thought they could have done a little bit more, by including some interviews with a transgender, it might help the average audience to come to terms with them and there life style rather than discriminating or making jokes about them, with this not included it only covers 3/4 of LGBT, i feel this campaign video could have been executed better in some places, but overall this is a good campaign that informs the audience on the basics and allows the audience to connect with the gay community and individual members of it which i feel is important.
Conclusion:
In conclusion, i feel that our production went amazing and we really worked great as a team, our production came out better than we expected, at first i wasn't confident on the idea because i thought the directors views and shots that he wanted to try were beyond our talent and creativity but when we started filming i realised that they weren't and we could do them comfortably, i learnt a lot about myself and what i could when i put my mind to it on a project, i liked doing this production because i love doing realistic pieces and i felt the themes and topics involved were gritty and involved tragedy, these themes were great because we could experiment with them in our filming, furthermore i feel by doing this project it allowed us to express our creative sides in terms of camera techniques and building a narrative, because our production is all narrative it needed a strong story or the target audience would not be interested in our story, so i feel we was very creative with our narrative and all of our choices in pre and post production.
Firstly, our social action was very different to a typical Social Action Campaign. UNIT 24 RESEARCH DIARY SCRIPT
Scripting:
To start off my research i decided to look at Daily Script, this website uploads only the highest quality of scripts from movies and TV Shows. I wanted to find a script that may match the same style as mine, i chose Gone Girl script because i feel the script relates to my script and i can actually use this as an example. Firstly i will use this because of the way it is narrated by actor Ben Affleck and actress Rosamund Pike, I found this script online, i feel that it relates to my ideas in my script because i want a sense of storytelling through some sort of narration done by the characters, throughout the script, they have EXT. and INT, these words signify where the scene is taking place, these are instructions on ALL scripts to show the audience where the scene is going to take place.
I have also picked Gone Girl because of how much i enjoy the style of the script and how the story is told,i feel the use of narration could really evolve my story and make it a lot better than without a voice-over, i feel it would because the voice-over is another way to talk to the audience. What i love about this scene underneath is the simplicity of it but yet it is very complex to understand, during this scene, there is raw emotion and a dark side to the characters.
Gone Girl (more info)
The reason why i have chosen this script, is for many reasons, firstly i love the narrative and the book it is based upon, the story catches the audience and the narrative creates distress and thrills for the audience, i love the way the script is set out and told in the movie, the character development is strong and tense, throughout the movie and when reading the script, you can feel the characters changing and becoming more darker throughout the script, i love the techniques they have used in this script such as the characters becoming darker and the way the script is set out by using a voice-over. the voice-over helps to portray the characters in a more darker way as the characters will talk to the audience almost like a psychiatrist. One of my other favourite techniques that i enjoyed when reading the script and watching the movie is there use of suspense throughout the script, they use suspense when the characters are leaving clues for the main character, the reason why i feel this is a great technique is because they keep the audience in suspense and involved in the narrative.
American Psycho:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1LsmHe2Zzg4l0vFbPHpXp1DjIHx44SeMrywtMIk10-tg/edit?usp=sharing
My second script i am going to look at is American Psycho, they're many reasons why i have picked this, the first big reason is the way the narrative and the script is set out as a Horror and a Thriller, with elements as comedy in it, i love the way this is set out because it doesn't follow the typical conventions of a Horror because it includes black comedy. They use comedy to portray characters a different way even if they're villains or not particularly likeable characters. In this script the main character is portrayed as a violent, angry character but with the use of comedy elements,he then turns into a narcissistic psychopath with a dark sense of humour, so comedy can change the audience's outlook of a character just by how is personality is described and the way he is portrayed on the film.
Furthermore, American Psycho shows a character struggling with his mind and real life, it shows the reality of dealing with a mental Illness in a very darker tone and that is clear in the narrative. One of the biggest reasons why i have took inspiration from this script to use in my narrative is because American Psycho is one of my favourite films and in my opinion one of the best scripts ever written, based on a book just like Gone Girl, i feel these make for the best scripts because they have something to base the script of which makes it easier for the writer/film-makers because it's easier// more convenient for them when writing something with research/information written about it, this means the film-makers can focus more on the quality when filming.
I got this script from Daily Scripts, just like Gone Girl, i picked this website to find my scripts because i feel they're the most reliable and it is the easiest to use when finding scripts.
We see in this script, just like Gone Girl it has a very detailed narration, although the quotes from this script isn't graphic, it gives a very thorough and detailed description of his 'routine', these two scripts i have chosen are very similar in the style i want to do my script, narration for my script will be vital when telling the story, because in American Psycho he addresses the audience almost like he is talking to them about his routine, although i want my narration to be a little different because i want my character to be addressing his problems and what he has done to the audience, i feel i can take a lot of inspiration from both scripts when im creating mine.
The location for this script will be different to mine, because of how the narrative is set out, he is stationed in a city (New York City), although i don't want my narrative to be set in a huge City because that wouldn't fit my characters personality's, my location is going to be based in a small town with not many new faces and a small population, i feel this would be a great location because of it being a small town away from the city, almost a very lonely town, i want that to the reflect my characters emotions, adding to this i feel the small town would fit the narrative and the characters involved.

INT. BEDROOM -
SOMETIME
We see the back of AMY DUNNE’S HEAD, resting on a pillow.
NICK (V.0.)
I picture cracking her lovely
skull, unspooling her brain,
Nick runs his fingers into Amy’s hair.
NICK (V.0.)
Trying to get answers.
He twirls and twirls a lock, a screw tightening.
NICK (V.0.)
The primal questions of a marriage:
What are you thinking? How are you
feeling? What have we done to each
other?
We see in this narration that the voice-over is very graphic and detailed, they have set the narration out this way so the audience can have more of a connection with what the characters are talking about and really understand there emotions, i feel they have used narration so the characters are talking to the audience, almost as if the characters know the audience and are in the same room as the narrator. I like the way this scene is introduced because it almost feels as if the character and the audience are just talking as friends or in a friendly manor, but when the narrator gets into the details in turns into a graphic, detailed explanation of murder.
I intend to mirror my script to GONE GIRL'S script for many reasons, firstly is the obvious use of a voice-over or narrator, i want to use a narration so the story actually speaks to the audience. I want the main character to talk to the audience as if he's speaking to a therapist or somebody he trusts.

Factual Infomation:
When writing a factual script, the writer needs to make sure all information they gather about the certain period is correct, if it isn't correct critics could tear it apart for not being accurate. For Example a show such as 11.22.63 that is set in the 1960's is a good example, if the mise en scene is wrong or inaccurate in this show critics and fans could be angry because of the show not being accurate to that certain time period. This show was based on a book by Stephen King, if this book didn't follow accurate information from that era, or the show-runners changed the Mise en scene or costumes, it may put viewers of from watching because it wouldn't show them an accurate representation of that era.
For example- In the first episode we meet characters from 1960's driving, spending time with other characters and having fun, if Stephen King didn't research what life was like in the 60's his historical representation may have been very different to the accurate representation of the 1960's youth. Adding to this, the accurate representation involved in this narrative makes this show so successful because of the way it sticks to the years it's set in and stays in the time era. Stephen King made sure the way they dress, act and how the scenes are set out in the script reflect the era. Adding to this, if Stephen King wrote the book, he would have had some creative control when working with the Mise en scene and the characters involved due to him creating them.
Factual information is very important because the information could mean make or break for a show, if the Mise en scene isn't correct when creating the show the audience won't believe that the film or TV program depicts an actual representation of that era.
Due to my narrative have issues such as PTSD and its got a character who is a war veteran, i will need to find and collect detailed research about PTSD and what people can go through such as anger, violence or episodes of other emotions, i feel when using these types of issues in my narrative i will need to do a lot of research to make sure i get my factual information correct so my narrative doesn't offend anybody or uses improper information that could depict something bad or possibly glorifying something that could be seen as bad. When doing my research i will make sure i tackle these difficult topics because they're important so the narrative can progress and so the script looks realistic when i'm telling these problems through the eyes of the characters who are suffering from them.
The trailer i have linked is the trailer for 11/22/63, the reason why i have chosen this as my example is because i feel the mise en scene and the locations for this narrative depict the era the way it actually was, due to it based on a book they have a lot of information that could be used to help, but the set designers and costume department have done a fantastic job to make it look like the 1960's, this would be tricky and difficult to do, especially for the long panning shots of the cities or a long shot of a bridge with retro cars et. The writers clearly put a lot of effort into making sure the settings they filmed in and the locations and characters involved looked unbelievably authentic and it looked like the 1960's,if the characters didn't look authentic, I feel it wouldn't be worth watching because they wouldn't have put the research or effort into the Mise En Scene or the costumes.

Opinion:
I feel it is important when writing a script to address the public's opinion because if your script gets made into a film/Tv Show the public will be the people who are watching it, by gathering information on what the public feel would be good you can get more knowledge about there opinions and what they would want to be included in your script, this is vital because the public in the end decides if your show or film is good or not and they're who bring money in to the studio and to the writer, adding to this i feel it is important because by doing research with the public you can then address your target audience a little bit more for your script.
It is obvious that you have to consider the executives too, after all they're who you're pitching your idea to, when pitching your idea it is very important to consider the executives because they're who are going to give you the big budget to bring your script to life, without them your script is just words, the executives can make your script come to life. Its important to make sure that you make a good impression with your script so they accept it and give you the budget you need to make a movie/Tv Show out of your script, if executives feel your idea isn't suitable (depending on the studio) they will not take it on as a project because they feel it might hurt the studio or may not be successful, it is important to impress the executives with confidence because studio's look for confidence when pitching your idea so they know your 100% confident with what you have and you know what you're doing. Adding to this, i feel it is important to consider there opinion because they will know what's best for the project to make it successful, so the executives may change things to the script and may give you some advice on changing it to fit a certain target audience more or to make the script fit a little better if they think it could improve the project, they may give advice on casting options or crew advice, it is important to take there opinions and advice because the executives will ultimately know what's best for the project.
In my opinion, i feel it has to be 50/50, the reason why i think this is you have to have a balance when it comes to who's opinion matters, public opinion ALWAYS matter because that's who is buying the finished product, but the executives opinions matter because they can help you project up and running and they can actually give you a budget, so i feel you have to have a mixture of who's opinion matter, the public's opinion matter just as much as the Executives and vice versa, a project needs to a have a mixture to become successful.
Controversy can be dangerous when pitching your script to anybody never mind the Executives, If a writer includes controversial topics in his/hers script, it could lead to many things such as less success (if they even take the project on), if they agree to take your script on, they may change the controversial bits because it may not fit the target audience or the script might be changed or altered so it doesn't offend certain audiences, E.G if a script had racist remarks in, they may cut it out to avoid the controversy that comes with it. An example of a very controversial film is A Clockwork Orange, based on the book of the same name, this movie includes themes of violence and rape and possible racism, this film is possibly the most controversial film of all time with the director even banning it from Theatres and having to go on a vacation because of backlash because he was afraid of his life being threatened, this film was very controversial because of the themes surrounding it.
Speculation:
When looking at speculation around TV or film, many rumours come out but many are proven or in fact true, many reporters and magazine speculate what is going to be happening in the next episode. One great example is The Walking Dead, in a recent episode the speculation was around character Glen and the title was 'Did Glen Die?' this had huge speculation because the writers left the episode on a huge cliffhanger, an the audience had to wait 3 months until the winter break ended, this meant a lot of rumours and speculation was written about just this one character, this happens a lot because people love to talk about what's going to happen next week and everybody loves to debate and speculate what's going to happen next week this happens on TV and Film.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tGBW4vZaH8g
A plot twist like this keeps the audience on there toes and it stops the show from getting stale or boring, it keeps the show gaining viewers each week and builds there fan base, plot twists brings diversity to the show and by changing the narrative it allows new characters and relationships to evolve. For Example, After 'Glens Death' his wife in the show accepted his death and was beginning to move on, but when he came back they feel back in love again, by creating these plot twists it also allows emotional connections to be seen and characters to change depending on the narrative.
I think i will leave a cliff hanger in mine, depending on how i feel when i start to write my narrative i feel because it is a 10 minute script, a cliffhanger would be great to finish it off, i would like my cliffhanger to focus on the woman in my story and possibly leave the audience wondering what happened to her, did she survive? did she get away from her violent husband? i will choose how i will develop my ending depending on if i have any further ideas when writing my script, i feel this is a good way to plan a script out because i will let my ideas flow when writing the script instead of planning ever little detail before hand.
I think cliffhangers are great for a popular TV shows or Films especially if they have a huge fan-base such as Marvel,DC, Game Of Thrones or The Walking Dead, TV provides a stage for cliffhangers to be set, they tend to be done so the next series sets out straight after so you can see what happened just after, i feel this is great because by leaving where it just went off the audience feels like they haven't missed a thing almost like the next season is a straight continuation and not a new series but just another episode.
Existing Material:
There is a lot of existing material i will use such as interviews and reports as well as scripts, we have looked at the two scripts i like and i am using as examples to base my script of but because my narrative heavily involves PTSD and Domestic violence i thought it may be best if i was to get some real life stories and information about these issues, so i did some research an found two compelling stories that i could base some ideas off and hopefully transform them into ideas that will be appreciated in my script. Here are my two examples
http://gawker.com/ptsd-and-me-true-stories-from-military-veterans-1167107848
http://www.channel4.com/news/domestic-violence-katys-story
I did my own research when looking at my script, i completed this by asking a 5 question survey to people who i know and who i feel would give great answers, the answers i got back when my survey had been answered varied, firstly the males said they like crime films and horrors more than women who said they like Romance and Romance-Comedies, this was very interesting research because the males sided to more violent genres rather than the women that went for more softer and gentler genres, i feel this has helping me because i can identify who my genre and script is catered to a little bit more, adding to this i feel my genre for my script could cater for both males and females because the females answered saying that they also like Thrillers, so i feel some females may like my script and narrative because it caters to Drama, hints of romance and Thriller, because i intend on using three different genres, i feel it gives me a bigger target audience to work with which might work in my favour but could also be very tricky because i have to cater to three different audience's needs. Both Male and Female all had very different answers which helps me that both male and female would love my film because it has elements of different genres, adding to this i feel my narrative and script will cater to many because i wont follow the typical conventions of one certain genre, i will think outside the box to make my narrative and script exciting and very different. When asking the question of my survey, i asked if they would watch a controversial film, many of them said yes, i feel this is because controversy draws people n and is very exciting in films, it raises questions and debates, i feel by making my script controversial, it can raise questions around the taboo themes that i have included. Adding to this by adding a controversial topic by script and narrative will stray away from the typical conventions of my genre's.

Secondary Research:
My secondary research includes 2 scripts, i feel these scripts fit my narrative perfect because they're twisted and have some detailed and graphic writing inside them,, i feel these are great because i want to mirror them both because they both include great ideas, such as the narration and the fantastic dialogue as he talks to the audience. I have taken ideas from these two scripts because i want me protagonist to be almost talking to the audience, therefore by using these two scripts as examples i can take ideas for them in terms of voice-over dialogue. My second piece of research i did was into other Thrillers from different eras and i saw how they changed (typical conventions etc) i found that conventions for genres change over time, due to me not following the typical conventions of the latest thrillers, i though it was useful to note what conventions are not used any more and possibly make the most out of them, for example in the film PSYCHO, during the Murder Shower Scene they don't show the murderers face at all, i like this effect because it then gives character mystery and leads the audience down a dark path throughout the movie, almost like a detective you the audience has t find out who committed the murder.
Evaluation:
Both Primary research and Secondary was very useful because they both allowed me to figure out my target audience more but also gather more information on different genre's that my narrative and plot could possibly fit in, My secondary research has helped because i have identified what scripts COULD be similar to mine, and ones i could mirror or take inspiration from, i feel this is really going to help me when creating ideas because i can use some conventions them scripts have used in there dialogue. The main highlights of research that helped me was the research on the scripts and the research for my factual information such as my research into domestic violence and PTSD, i feel this information really helped me build a more graphic idea for my narrative and actually helped me to build upon the idea i already had, by reading these accounts from real people it helped me connect with there problems, which means that i will have more compassion and be more careful when writing about controversial subjects so i am careful not to offend my target audience.
Due to my idea being a Thriller and that genre is popular i found my research very easy because all the information i wanted was easy to get, even my factual information, that was easy to get because although a taboo subject it is big on the internet and in the news so i felt not many parts of the research was difficult more time consuming than anything, i felt it was time consuming because i wanted to get every factual bit of detail right for my story to make it as realistic as possible, i think that realism in my story is important so when reading my script the audience can connect with the characters and there emotions. The only difficult part of it i thought was finding the correct genre and story i wanted to right, i feel this is the most difficult part of any type of writing because the idea has got to a good plot and it has to be interesting, i went through many genres, Sci-fi,Action and even Romance! I think i found my perfect genre in Thriller because it allows me to use my imagination when using my description in the dialogue for my characters.
Overall i feel my plot, characters and narrative is really well put together and it should make out for an interesting story, all the research i have done is going to be great when i start to write and put my characters and the narrative together.
My script is going to be very graphic and dark, the reason why i feel this would be great is because, i feel this type of writing will be good when looking at the topics in my script such as Domestic violence, sexual violence and PTSD, these types of topics are controversial and tend to or be scene in movies or scripts, i feel my script will fit with these topics and will be good when using descriptive writing skills when writing about these topics. I will do my best to accurately describe these types of topics because i want the audience to feel the same emotions as the character is doing. This will be important when writing my script because the ore descriptive it is the more the audience will feel emotionally connected with the characters.

Bully Campaign
Proposal:
Our project hopes to raise awareness towards cyber bullying and how it can lead to mental health issues, the reason we are passionate about this is because we feel this issue (cyber bullying) is a very taboo subject and doesn't get enough light in mainstream media such as adverts and campaigns. Our idea shows the narrative of a teenager going through his student life whilst he gets bullied, it shows his troubles and his mental health issues what home and at college, it shows how adults don't always notice the issues and problems teenagers go through and how bullying can go un-noticed in the education system.
Target Audience
The target audience we want our social action to apply to is teenagers aged from 13-19, we feel this is the best target audience because About 75% of students admit they have visited a website bashing another student. This fact shows that students have to be the biggest target audience because it happens the most with this certain group of people, we're focusing on a younger audience because we feel our narrative and script fit the target audience we're appealing to, but also because cyber-bulling happens the most with this target audience.
Genre:
Our genre for our campaign is drama, we think this is the best option because we are using real life people in real life situations, a docudrama will use re-enactments to show the audience a narrative but also to show raw emotion depending on the story and the narrative. Adding to this we feel drama is the best genre because of the narrative and some graphic scenes that may be shown, we want the audience to feel upset after watching this advert and for it to have a huge impact on them, the way we will do this will be the introducing of the characters and the hard hitting narrative involved.

I found a video that relates to our campaign, in this advert they have the same target audience and message to ours. The biggest reason why i feel our target audience would be hit emotionally by our campaign is because victims of cyber bullying could relate to the character is our narrative , it would also be popular because we hope our characters emotion will connect to the audience and will hopefully get victims to speak out, we want our audience to be emotionally connected with the character and to also see themselves in the character.
I feel the camerawork will be similar in some aspects but different in other aspects, for instance when filming an interview maybe, we will move the camera to the left or to the right, this is a typical camerawork convention that is used in drama documentaries that could be used. We will make it a little bit different when filming the re-enactments, we will do this by filming it like a movie with a linear narrative, although movie like social action videos have been created before our will be different because of our superb narrative involved and the way it will be executed. When working with the lighting throughout our project we can manipulate it and experiment with it in many ways to make our re--enactments look better but also our interviews, we could make the interview go from sinister to happy and sad whenever we wanted just with the lighting, so i we feel that the lighting for our narrative is important, especially with the more darker scenes we can use lighting to our advantage to make the story more believable and realistic.
We will use a backdrop when speaking to a professional or when doing an interview, we will use this because we feel this will fit the narrative and the structure in which we want our project to follow.
Our sound may be different from any other style of social action video because a drama documentary normally has narrator from the start, ours will be a little bit different, it may have some narration throughout the re-enactment but it will not have as much narration like the typical Docudrama would have. Adding to this we may have some music, which actually does follow the typical conventions, the music will match the narrative.
Overall, our idea will challenge how campaigns are made, we will show charities that campaigns can be made in a unique, emotion driven way and can be controversial without having the bad press and the backlash afterwards,, we want our narrative, camerawork, Mise en scene and characters to make our campaign amazing and different, whilst gathering an emotional response from the audience whilst they watch it, campaigns can be cheesy and cliche, we want ours to be unique and special and a campaign that the audience can get behind and one they can relate to. Our campaign and narrative will start with a re-enactment of a teenager as he gets bullied through his day, as his day keeps getting worse and worse the narrative gets darker, Our characters will be dark and distant from the rest of the world, especially the main character we want to really capture what it's like to be in a dark place and to be traumatised mentally. Our interviews that we may conduct will be with a professional, somebody that is close with the target audience ( college counsellor) we feel this would be a great interview to conduct because the target audience could relate to some of the answers. Finally, we have found some locations such as bridges, bedrooms, houses to film in and classrooms, we feel these were the best places to film in because the bedroom will start the narrative, the classrooms will be in the middle of the narrative and the bridge will finish off the narrative.

Assignment 1 and Assignment 2 Outcome 1 Documentaries Unit 27
Introduction
Many times there have been documentaries that have caused outrage
and uproar, amongst viewers since the earliest documentary. They’re many ways a
documentary can cause a lot of controversy, firstly I feel the most popular one
is Bias and Representation, these are huge because accurately representing a
certain group of people is huge, especially if the documentary is going to be
shown all over the world, the other huge issue is Bias, I feel this is big
because again, if the documentary is controversial or deals with a taboo
subject(s) It can shed bad light on an organisation or a group of people if the
documentary deals with them subjects. Another issue is privacy, if you’re
dealing with a topic that could be controversial the privacy of people or
organisations are important, some organisations will have a lot of privacy and
may not want to share information with the film-makers depending on if it puts
pressure on them OR portrays them in a bad way. Documentary Accuracy is very
important for many reasons, the first reason is if the documentary isn't accurate or gives inaccurate information not only is it illegal but could also
cause outrage if the information isn't right. A documentary has to have balance,
with both sides having an argument for their cause, if there is no balance, the
documentary would be bias and unfair.
They're many problems that live shows and documentaries could
face, depending on what kind of documentary it is. Firstly many documentaries
are controversial and could stir up trouble with the channel it's on or the
production team. A one sided documentary could cause problems for the
production team because they may portray a certain group of people in a bad
light, I looked at an example of a Documentary called 'Immigration Street' that
portrayed eastern Europeans and Immigrants that's have come to Britain for a
better life. This Documentary was controversial because it portrayed many of
the Immigrants as not working and getting money for free from the government,
because this documentary was so controversial it was only 1 Episode long
instead of 6, because it was criticised so much, many people feel Channel 4
aren't as credible any more and will trust them less when coming to them with
certain projects, it would also hurt the production team because it may ruin their
credibility and trust with other channels when looking for certain jobs in the
industry. Only problems you may face in the industry are ideas such as bias
stories or one sides documentaries, these could be a problem because they may
only show one side of the story and again, may portray a certain group of
people or something in a bad way which could result in controversial views or
even the program plugged from the channel.
Blackfish
This documentary shows how Whales are being treated in these resorts, this is such a huge thing because for years Whales have been in captivity for years and the director of Blackfish Gabriela Cowperthwaite wanted to make a documentary that expressed her feelings and many others towards SeaWorld and how they treat the animals and this is why the documentary was made. I feel some of the techniques they have used like the stock footage really helps the argument and the opinion that the director is trying to send across to the audience, i feel it works because it back up her argument even further but also allows the audience to choose for themselves and to express there opinions and argue there point for it also. Adding to this i think the use of the interviews ands the stock footage help to portray SeaWorld in a bad light and helps to make a one sided argument which makes SeaWorld to be portrayed in a bad light. I feel the camera angles and techniques they have used really help to show the directors argument such as the camera angles that show the Whales close up almost humanising them and showing them in the same light as the workers who work with the whales.
One of the most famous examples of a controversial documentary is Blackfish this contains a lot of themes and topics based around animal cruelty in resorts like SeaWorld a lot of the themes in this revolve around this and how SeaWorld capture them and how they treat them, all of the Documentary revolves around the Orca Whales and no other animals in the SeaWorld resorts. This was very controversial because some say it only showed one side of the story and didn't give enough air time to SeaWorld representatives, adding to this the stock footage and found footage spanning over 4 decades meant that there was a lot of footage to suggest the torture of the Orca Whales which furthermore suggests the corruption of Sea World. This certain documentary was very controversial because it highlighted many things that were wrong with this Industry and brought up many interested points. Once SeaWorld was a much loved resort for families but after BlackFish, the documentary sparked controversy, protests and campaign against SeaWorld, due to this controversy involved and with the help of this documentary the Orca Whale homes in SeaWorld are close to being banned, with some already closing them down and releasing them. The controversy could have harmed the program makers with SeaWorld taking legal action to try and get this documentary banned/taken down, also it could have affected them in a positive way with future employers looking at their past work and seeing BlackFish, they may be more tempted to hire them because they will go the extra mile and are willing to be controversial when creating projects. I feel the creators of this Documentary can only have positive benefits when looking at how it would affect them, but SeaWorld may try and take action against them.

I feel the creators of this Documentary can only have positive benefits when looking at how it would affect them, but SeaWorld may try and take action against them.
They're many specific examples where there point is put across in this documentary, such as the use of old stock footage from Sea World that shows the closed and small pools that the whales have to live in, i feel they used this old stock footage because it puts out a message to the audience of how terribly the whales are being treated in these enclosures, i also think they used this old footage to prove there point even further, this footage works great because it is old footage, it is clear proof that this kind of treatment of the Orca Whales has been going on a lot longer than this Documentary has been in production. The use of old footage , such as the people working with the Orca Whales and then something ad happening to the workers, it conveys both sides of the story, and almost lets the audience pick a side when watching this documentary, and allows you to do that throughout, by showing the old footage of the workers because attacked by the Orca's it helps convey the message to the audience that whales should not be locked in small pools because they can turn aggressive and angry. The use of medium shot interviews with past workers there, really helps to tell the audience a story about there time at SeaWorld, and because they longer work there, they can give there honest opinion on how whales are being treated in there enclosures. This is what the documentary was made for, to start an argument based upon the treatment of the whales and with these kinds of examples, i feel that they have made the argument for and against and makes the audience decide.
This link shows proof and impact that the
blackfish documentary had by SeaWorld 'phasing out' of all Orca Whale shows. This link shows how Blackfish helped to stop Orca Whale shows, by Blackfish showing how Whales are being treated it made a huge impact of the revenue SeaWorld made as well as the popularity of the SeaWorlds all over America, this documentary stopped people from going to the shows and helped them realise that this is animal abuse and is very wrong, i feel this documentary will have a lot of impact in the future, and SeaWorld have already started to stop Orca Shows because of all the backlash from people around the world, my opinion is that it has had a huge impact on SeaWorld and more for the business side of SeaWorld rather than the workers.
Furthermore, this documentary had a huge impact on the general audience due to protests being started all over America and the world to stop Orca Whales shows in all of the SeaWorld resorts so i feel it has a huge impact on SeaWorld in general.
The Bridge:
This documentary was very controversial at the time, and probably still is today, they're many reasons why this documentary was controversial and definitely still is. Firstly the biggest reason why it was questionable is the film maker actually filmed people committing suicide, which morally is definitely wrong, adding to this, the film-maker lied to the San Francisco council and actually said he's filming a documentary about the scenery and the history of the bridge and didn't tell them there true intentions, firstly, there is many things wrong with this, the first clear problem is privacy, the people who committed suicide from the bridge did not give there consent to film them, let alone film them commit suicide. The second problem wrong with this the documentary is privacy and access, if the film-maker had told the truth about what there real motives was, they wouldn't have got the access to film the suicides but they lied and that could be actually illegal and the production team could actually be took to court. I think the biggest issue with this documentary is Privacy, making a documentary about suicides with actually deaths can be very disturbing for any viewer and the families of the people that died. the production team didn't even tell the families that they had footage of the family member committing suicide. This documentary got a decent review from IMDB but the jury is still out on whether this was an acceptable and morally right thing to create? Although it is controversial it raises ideas and thought about more should be done to stop people committing suicide and possibly challenging authority to do more to stop people jumping of the bridge. My opinion about this documentary is that some clips are very questionable and could be morally wrong, also suicide is very private to the person, and i feel that your breaking that privacy barrier by filming them doing such a personal thing. If it's a well made documentary is another matter and could still be well made even with all these controversial points made. Adding to this, some thought by showing this documentary, it's almost glamorising suicides and because it is very taboo subject, creating a documentary about will more than likely get negative reviews and could only have negative connotations. It could have affected the film makers because there credibility could have go down dramatically, especially when invading peoples private lives and filming people committing suicide which without doubt would be seen as morally wrong and down right disrespectful. Adding to this, it would affect them because people would see this on there CV/ Show reel and possibly decide against hiring them because they would know how they work and that they could be controversial and that could be bad for the studio/production company.
Some of the techniques they have used such as the close up of the victims during the suicide scenes, these help to connect with the victims because the close ups show what they're doing very closely such as them climbing over the top of the bridge, the camera techniques helps to show the audience the characters /victims involved a little bit more but also help to convey the documentaries message.
I feel the intention is to shock the audience, but also to be controversial, to show the audience something they have never seen before in there lives and nothing that has ever been shown on television which is so realistic and gritty for it's time, adding to this, i feel that because all it set out to do was to be controversial and talked about in the media, so i feel it's intention was to do nothing else, maybe show the grittiness of real life, but it certainly doesn't make people more aware about suicide or not people from committing suicide, my opinion is that it almost glorifies suicide in the way that it doesn't help stop committing suicide or make people more aware about mental health that could lead to possible suicide.
The themes around this documentary are quite strong, such as suicide and obviously death, these are difficult themes to work with when making a documentary, so i feel by filming the way they did (filming live deaths) they didn't go about the documentary the right way and should have actually go about filming the documentary in a better more morally correct way rathert than just filming deaths, i think the themes that are in the documentary are very taboo so when this documentary was made (2004) it was already controversial because suicide and depression were topics not only taboo but not spoken about at all, this documentary doesn't help people to come out at all about there mental health.
They're many examples with this documentary also, i feel that there is one scene that they show throughout which is the epitome of what they're trying to show, which is the showing of human beings committing suicide from the top of Golden Gate Bridge, they show this because it helps to audience t believe there documentary and makes it no longer fiction and it starts to become factual, this is important because it starts to convey there message very strongly, also, the use of close up zoom in's of the people, it shows the audience the seriousness of the documentary, by showing these, as well as letting the audience make a connection with the victims. I think these close up's further prove the documentaries point that there a lot deaths on this bridge, i feel, there message throughout is to just be controversial and to be talked about in the news, a lot like Blackfish is that it was very controversial and stirred up a lot of trouble for the people involved in the documentary. I think the use of the suicides, shows what this bridge is used for most of the time, and gives a gritty and realistic viewing of what happens in the real world. I feel the suicides perfectly show what this documentary is clearly about, and this is why it was so controversial, The use of the wide shots showing the bridge and then the close ups of the people, shows the size of the bridge when compared to the person which i think can have an effect on the viewer.

The example i have chosen
The image shows the film makers filmography before and after 'The Bridge', as you can see he hasn't done a lot, i feel this is strong proof studio's may struggle to hire him and trust him with projects because of his morals and his controversial storytelling.
Furthermore, this documentary had a huge impact on the general audience due to protests being started all over America and the world to stop Orca Whales shows in all of the SeaWorld resorts so i feel it has a huge impact on SeaWorld in general.

Assignment 2:
discuss the conventions, how has it been
constructed and how has it been constructed
class of 92 ( observational drama)
Class Of 92
Firstly, i feel this documentary comes under one documentary mode and that's Drama. The reason i feel this is because if you look at the trailer for this, it clearly follows some codes and conventions from Drama Documentaries such as the Mise En Scene, they use a back drop that relates to the subjects which is very common for this type of documentary, as well as the sound, the sound used is sometimes a narrator, the age and gender of the narrator usually reflects the target audience, so for this documentary it would be 30+ Male. Adding to this the sound used would set the scene and it could heighten the emotion of the audience such as music, if music is used in this documentary it may change or heighten the emotion of the audience. The narration may have questions cut out so it is just the answers, this is common for this mode because it means the audience don't have to spend time hearing each question and can hear the answers straight away, the answers are conducted so you almost know what the interviewer said anyway. The Narrator will normally introduce the topic and will also conclude the narrative at the end of the documentary.
The editing involved in this type of mode are very common in this documentary such as montages, these are so common because montages help to show the audience a lot of action in a small amount of time, because this documentary is showing goals and a lot of action in a small amount of time, they use montages to fit all of that information in. Adding to this they show montages to show multiple examples of archive footage or sometimes use them to give the audience a teaser of what the documentary is about. Furthermore they will use a simple editing cut to not distract the audience from the subject matter and tend not to use effects or complex cuts as much and are kept to a minimum.
These types of documentaries tend to use archive footage because it tends to always be relevant to the subject matter, so in this case, this documentary will show archive footage of goals or old football matches and may be shortened down into a montage, they may show archive footage because it could be relevant to what the narrator is talking about at that certain time.
Graphics are huge in this mode of documentary, the first thing that is important are the titles, the titles tend to be unique to that certain programme so they stand out when compared to other documentaries. During interviews the interviewee and there relevance and title tends to be and important graphic so the audience know who it is and why they're being interviewed. Adding to this, subtitles can be very important whether they're for other countries or if subtitles are needed if you're interviewing somebody with a strong accent.
Obviously the most important part of a documentary is Camera work, interviews tend to be framed to the left or to the right because of the rule of thirds, handheld cameras used for archive or actuality footage for more reaction for the audience. In drama documentaries a variety of shot types are used to keep the audience entertained and so the documentary isn't boring and it keeps sustaining the audience's interest, if they use still image they tend to pan or zoom across on them.
March of the penguins Expository documentary
Many animals based documentaries tend to be observational because the audience is observing the subjects (the animals), this i quite different and is actually an Expository Documentary, This type of documentary will create an argument for or against and allows the audience to think for themselves when conducting the argument. i feel it is a Expository Documentary because it follows the typical conventions of one such as...
Narration- The narration for a documentary with this mode is almost a 'voice of god' and tend to address the audience when narrating over the documentary. It is almost a voice of god because the commentator/narrator is never seen but heard all of the time, narration is so important in this documentary because the narration tells the audience the story of what is going on in the video, without the narration there would be no point in filming the documentary. Adding to this the narrator normally has a very distinctive voice or tends to be an expert in the field, these two traits are very important because the distinctive voice will keep the audience interested and the expert will be able to tell the audience the important and useful information about the animal(s)
The images they use also tend to link in with the narration, because when the narrator is speaking, images that relate to the certain narration tend to appear, so the audience not only hears what's going on but see what's going on also.
Editing- The editing used tends to be for continuity to link the images that support the argument with the narration, this is also very important because it helps the audience understand what is happening a little bit more but tends to help the audience and guide them with images or videos through the narration. When editing a mix of footage, interviews, images and possible archive footage is put together, sometimes into a montage to support the argument, i feel this is an important convention because it allows the audience to be persuaded by the narrators argument a little bit more and can tell a story to the audience. Adding to this the mix of footage would keep the audience interested and would make them keep watching.
Other conventions used:
Persuasive techniques: This is a huge conventions that they always use in Expository Documentaries because it helps there argument, it also helps the narrator persuade to the audience that there argument is true, these documentaries are rhetorical and definitely try to persuade the viewer to think for or against there argument. The narrator other than persuading the audience, he/she will give factual information to back up there argument, facts are important in any documentary, but a documentary such as this will always have factual information in it because of the content and the nature of the documentary.
Camerawork- The camera work in this type of documentary will tend to be similar to a movie with many medium shots and scenery shots and establishing shots, they will use this to show where the documentary is taking place but to also show the subjects in this documentary, in this documentary (march of the penguins) they show medium shots because they want to audience to look at the subjects and they show establishing shots to show the audience the subjects habitat, i feel these shots are important because this documentary doesn't follow the generic conventions of a documentary by using these shots and tends to be very different.
Furthermore Expository Documentaries tend to not follow the typical conventions of a documentary and use different conventions that different modes wouldn't use. This type of documentary will speak to the viewer when actually creating an argument for them to decide for themselves.
News show Conventions
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N0cwnWdiXk4
This news show will follow many typical conventions, the first obvious convention is News Show Reporters, this is a huge conventions that every news show follows, this is a very helpful convention because almost like a TV presenter they inform the audience of what is on the show(in this case NEWS) this is a very typical convention because every news show follows it, this convention is very popular because they help the audience to understand the news as they're explaining it and overall help the show stay together almost like the glue. The news reporters on every show tedn to be smartly dressed and in very formal clothes, the reason they are portrayed this way is because the studio want the audience to trust them and formal wear/business wear is a persuasive technique in which they do that. One News Show that doesn't follow this convention is NewsRound on Children's channel CBBC, although owned by the BBC, it isn't the same as BBC News, they have portrayed the News Reporter in a very different way (casual clothes, more out-going, friendly) is because the studio wants the younger audience to trust that certain News Reporter, when comparing the two, both Reporters are doing the same thing but just for different target audience's.
The second convention is actuality footage, you will see this convention is a lot of news programs, especially big news shows such as BBC or ITV News, you tend to only show actuality footage from the biggest news stories, i feel they only show the bigger news stories with actuality footage because the big stories will appeal to a mass audience, they wouldn't spend a lot of money to get actual footage from a smaller news story and they tend to only get actuality footage from a global news story. This is a typical convention of a news show because most of them do it and you will not find many News Shows that do not use actuality footage, adding to this, a huge reason why they use them is to keep the audience interested and to keep them on the edge and keep watching, the actuality footage may force them to keep watching to find out the end of the report. The footage shown could be quite graphic depending on the time that the news report is on, E.G- 6pm they cannot show graphic scenes or violence, but a news show on at 10pm could show graphic scenes or violence because it is on after the watershed, so i feel the News Shows have to be careful with what they're talking about at certain times because of regulations etc.
Modes Of Address:
This links in with how the presenter is portrayed, a mode of address is how something is reported or delivered, in this case BBC is more formal and appeals to a middle aged audience, rather than Channel 5 News that uses more slang words and has a more upbeat nature that appeals to a younger audience that may not want to watch BBC because of the seriousness and formality of it.
Interviews-
This is a very common convention and will be in ALL news shows, the reason why this is in all news shows is because the interviews could be live witnesses or experts in a certain field. Interviews help keep the news show not boring and allows the news show to get out of the studio and allows the audience to have different scenery and setting. I feel this is such a typical convention because it allows the audience to be taken somewhere else, keeps the show fresh and can help the audience connect to the news story a little bit more through interviews.
Report Structure and Camerawork:
An example of Report Structure is the Main Story in the studio, then to an on location reporter(field reporter) then an interview(possibly an eyewitness, then back to the studio, i feel the structure is lay out this way because there is balance between the studio and outside the studio, they may spend a lot of time outside the studio so again, it gives the audience a breath of fresh air and allows them to witness different scenery or a different location rather than just a studio for 30 minutes.
This is most important part of a news show in my opinion for many reasons, the first reason why i feel it is very important is every news show is based on structure, without structure the show would be a mess and wouldn't be enjoyable to watch or listen to because again, there would be no structure. Reports are normally done using the same techniques every time, They use medium shots to address the scenery and the subject, they do this because a medium shot shows both and looks very formal in a news report, a medium shot works because it is the most common shot, it also works so well because since the start of news reports the camera shot they tend to use the most is medium shots and the audience are used to that specific shot. The graphics used tend to be the name of the news presenters or the interviewee, they use these graphics to show the audience who a certain person is so the audience can follow along with the news presenters and so all the audience are up to date when following along with the news, the title graphics tend to be very specific to the certain channel E.G- BBC news has a very different style to ITV news because they have a different style with BBC being the more formal channel.
Overall i feel News Shows are very different when compared to documentaries but can also be very similar in terms of some of the shots they use and some typical conventions, I feel that both can reach for different target audiences by using different techniques and different conventions, a big convention that could be used on both News Shows and Documentaries is persuasive techniques, in a news interview the interviewee could be trying to persuade there audience about there views, much like a documentary where they could be doing the same.
Class Of 92
Firstly, i feel this documentary comes under one documentary mode and that's Drama.

What is social action?
Social action means taking steps to change the things that are wrong in our society and introducing new ideas and processes for doing things better in the future. Social Action is important in media and for Campaigns because they help raise money by people coming forward and helping by volunteering, this is needed because during the campaign it will show the good heartedness of people volunteering and motivate people who watch the campaign to donate. Social Action is also important because it motivates the public to focus on a project and to help out a community of people that desperately need the communities help. individual or group behaviour that involves interaction with other individuals or groups, especially organised action toward social reform.

805 Million Names-
Intention- The intention for this campaign is to raise awareness for hunger all around the world. especially in third world countries struck by poverty, natural disasters and war. This particular advert shows just a few names of the 805 million people that are suffering from hunger around the world, its intention is to shock people and use numbers to persuade people to donate or join the campaign. Its context and the facts are that they're a large number of people that need help from the audience. Their needs to be a rise and awareness because of how serious and big of a subject this is and because their is so many people suffering from it. The statistics they have used are a shock factor for the audience and really puts it into perspective that this is a massive issue. The techniques used to persuade are two main factors of the advert. The first technique they use is a celebrity to endorse this campaign, this is important because a big name celebrity is a huge part of making sure this campaign runs well and gains mass attention. Adding to this, this big name footballer (Zlatan Ibrahimovic) who stars in this advert and campaign writes the names on his body with him saying every name, with emotional music in the background they have used this technique to create sympathy towards to names for the audience. Furthermore another technique they used is stats and numbers, this technique is used to make the campaign more dramatic for the audience and to show the real impact it has on the people suffering from it.
WWF Campaign-
The intention for this campaign is to raise awareness for the minimal amount of leopards in the wild, the reason for raising awareness is because of poachers and harsh weather, raising awareness for this campaign is important because the leopards are nearly extinct with only 35 left, this advert shows a few leopards to further raise awareness for them. It's intention is to shock the audience with numbers, the reason they have done this to create more awareness but also to show the audience how shocking this is and how the leopards need to be helped quickly. WWF are starting this campaign because not enough is being done to help the leopards, it's intention is to shock the audience and make them feel sad and affection towards the nearly extinct leopards. The biggest intention is for the audience to help the leopards and to keep them safe, i feel this isn't the only intention, the other intention is to make sure everybody knows that how serious of an issue this is. They obviously need help with this campaign from the public, so i feel there overall intention is to get the audience of the advert and campaign to help and raise funds to help the Amur Leopards. It's context such as the statistics they have used such as only 35 left are shock factor for the audience and really show the audience how serious of an issue this actually is, The techniques they used are quite similar to conventional animal campaigns such as a soft sounding voice for a narrator, soft music and a video of the leopards and there habitats that are destroyed. They have used these techniques because it gives the audience a sense of what the Leopards are going through but also it makes the audience feel sympathy and affection towards the leopards, these are typical techniques used because they make the audience sympathise with the animal. A common camera shot that is used is a close up of the animal, such as a close up on the face or eyes, they have done this, again, to show the raw emotion from the animal and to actually humanize them. I think that they have used quite conventional techniques, quite similar to other WWF adverts because this animal is the same as many and should have the same campaigns as the other endangered wildlife in the world.
Campaign 3
The intention for this campaign is to raise awareness for clean water in Haiti, i feel there main goal is to get the audience and people from all around the world to donate and to help out, there intention is to get clean water all around Haiti, after the earthquake there wasn't any clean water so they're trying to find people to donate money towards there cause or raise awareness for there cause, i feel there intentions are the same as any charity campaign and they just want people to notice and be aware about what they're doing. The context and why there needs to be awareness is because Haiti has been struck badly by the earthquakes and they're are desperately in need of water, this campaign is helping Haiti to get back on there feet and to help and donate to the citizens of Haiti The facts are in this campaign over 1900 people have helped get clean water to Haiti but all over the world too, these facts show what the people and audience have done toi help get clean water in Haiti Going back to the intention, i feel this 3:00 minute campaign video shows its intention perfectly, it shows how much Haiti need the audience's help and how much we could make a difference on there lives, if we was to volunteer or donate. The first techniques they use are quite similar to conventional campaigns such as the camera shots, stories and things involved in the campaign. The shots they use such as shots of the destruction and debris, these shots make the audience feel empathy towards the people in Haiti and makes us, the audience want to help out. These techniques on every advert/campaign because they make us feel sorry for the people involved. Although some of the shots they use are very conventional, when compared with the other two campaign adverts this one is very unique and different, frirstly it feels more like a 3:00 documentary rather than an advert campaign, which helps in understanding the campaign rather than a 30 second advert. I feel they have done it this way to persuade the audience and draw them in to watching the campaign, Final technique is the stories and interviews with some people who help in Haiti, this is a great technique because it allows the audience to connect with some of the helpers so the audience can understand who and why they're helping in Haiti.

Unit 24 Script Writing
What does a writer do? (commissioning process)
A writer is in charge of the script, thats there biggest role. this is a huge role because being in charge of the script has a huge responsibility throughout the film, they take care of the script and make sure the story is good enough. This isn't there only role though, they have many other roles throughout the production such as advising the director(s) and crew, this is a huge role because a writer is one of the most important crew members, having the writer on set is very important for the success of the film/series.
A writer has many roles that includes the script, firstly the most important role is being in charge of the actual script, the writer edits the scripts and makes sure it is good enough to be made into a film, the writers are very important because the whole story depends on them and what they write in the script. They're in charge of production planning, this is everything that needs to be done before the actual filming.
Writer resubmission:
In the script they're certain shots that will need to be accomplished to achieve the certain scene that they want, the writer of the script can help and advise on these shots and give his/hers opinions on how to get them and also try and improve camera shots. Sometimes it is unbelievably important to get a certain shot into the film because it could relate back to source information E.G comic books, camera shots are used to copy images that are in the comics. Depending on what they've written in the script, they could be in charge of some props and mise en scene, especially if they want them a certain way, a film like Mad Max:Fury Road the two other writers apart from Director George Miller could advise the crew who are in charge of props depending on if there is something specific the writer wants, maybe a small detail on the clothes or make-up that could make it more accurate to the script.
They're some negatives when being a writer, for example, writers don't get as much credit as they should do, considering they are in charge of the script and actually write the script, when you look at the cast the average audience will not look at the writer, they will look at the director and possibly the producer to give credit to, this is where i feel writers aren't given enough credit for there work, writers in the commissioners process deserve more credit for there work, this is a huge negative if you're a writer because you want to be given credit for your work so you can be more successful in the future and are able to have more job opportunities in the future. Adding to this i feel they're not credited enough for there work, for example they're there from the pre-production to the post production and they make sure that there ideas are converted onto television or film, because they have such as big role but don't get enough credit to the average target audience it stop them being as known as big directors or musical composers Furthermore, the negatives you could have when being a writer is, you could have disputes with the director over creative freedom and over what the writer wants to include over what the director whats, but this depends on the personalities of the writer and the director.
What does a producer do?
The producer is the glue of the whole production, without the producer the film would not happen at all, the producer makes sure all of the crew are working to the best of there ability and has a role when choosing the script.
Producers- Producers are the main players in the television, film and video industries. A producer will oversee each project from conception to completion and may also be involved in the marketing and distribution processes. Producers work closely with directors and other production staff on the shoot. Increasingly, they need to have directing skills themselves as the producer may also be the director and may take care of all project operations. Producers arrange funding for each project and are responsible for keeping the production within the allocated budget. A producer will also help bring ideas to the table when creating the film and can give his/her opinion to film set, whether it is script, shots or filming.
A producer is very important because they will take care of the budget for the film, that means budget for props, make up and all thing that add up to Mise En scene, as well as renting the cameras and locations, marketing is huge in a producers job because they handle the marketing budget but also how it's done, the producer will make sure the marketing is done correctly and the film markets itself well enough to be successful at the box office. A film like Deadpool that has terrific marketing had well known producers because they had done box office hits before, this is why a film like this was so successful all together because the marketing of the film was superb. A producer is an integral part of the crew and probably the most important and actually have the most important job, without the producer i feel films wouldn't be nearly as good and there would be no marketing for the films at all.
Overall, a producer is the most important crew member and has the ability to create new ideas and make the production better, has the ability to change the script (if the director wants it changed). they can have certain abilities when on set and jobs that they can help with such as camera movements, adjustment during shooting stage and other production jobs that could include the producer.
Agent Representation-
An agent is a person in the media industry that makes sure that a person(s) have work, are successful in the media industry an Agent normally works for Directors, actors or actresses and writers, they mostly help them when trying to find jobs etc.
The producer is the glue of the whole production, without the producer the film would not happen at all, the producer makes sure all of the crew are working to the best of there ability and has a role when choosing the script.

Agents represent writers whether freelance or not, the reason they have are to make sure they have work all the time, agents are important when looking after a writer and the jobs they get. The amount of pay the agent gets depends on how much the client and the agent agree, whether it is 15% or 25%, if a writer sells a script or works in a crew, the agent will be given a percentage depending on how much they agree in there deal. Some publishing companies or even film companies wont hire a writer unless they have an agent, having a well known an experienced agent will help when finding jobs, because they will more experienced and professional in their field. For example, a writer with an agent will more than likely get a bigger and better paying job, than somebody who doesn't have an agent. Adding to this not having an agent may be hard, but could be beneficial for a freelance writer or if you don't want to be tied down by an agent, having an agent all depends on what kind of work do you want and your opinion.
Agents have many responsibilities when helping a writer become more successful, there main jobs as an agent is to defend, help and support the writer when looking for work and too also promote them to film companies and places where they can possibly get a job. An agent could be in charge of the writers public image and the way they're represented in the media, the agent will make sure no bad press or information is leaked about them.
Royalty Payments:
Royalty Payments are payments towards the writer(s) from the use of the script, from books or films, the writer will get a percentage of the sale, for each book sold that has the writers script or ideas in he/she will get a percentage of each one sold, the same goes for films or use of the script, when writing for a film, the writer will possibly get a larger percentage depending on how successful the film is and the contract that the studio and the agent have agreed. The payments that the writer get definitely vary depending on success or failure of the project. Depending on what you're writing, royalties can vary and be very different, if it is music royalties, writers, composers and singers can all have royalty rights for there music and can own the rights to the song, this is why many people create Royalty free music that can be used free of charge without having to go through big companies to get music that could be expensive or costly. A writer for a film could make more money when the film they worked on is released in Cinemas or Blu-Ray and will make money on ticket prices or sales of the film.
Royalties can be awkward for the writer and could sometimes work against them depending on the studio, especially if the script the writer worked on is sold to the production company, because if the company doesn't use the script after purchasing it, the writer isn't allowed the re-sell the script or sell it to a different production company because technically it isn't there any more, this is a why a agent should always be present for these negotiations so a deal that benefits the writer and the studio can be put in place. When a film is re-made from an old script, money will still go to the writer that first wrote the original script for the film or the living relatives will strike a deal if they want to sell the script.
Writers can sometimes get cheated out of a contract and not getting enough pay for all there hard work, this is quite a regular occurrence. As i said before about music royalties, if a song is over 70 years old they don't have to pay for the royalties of the song, so the studio don't actually lose out on any money whatsoever when they have that song on there film/show.
Plagiarism-
Plagiarism is the idea of copying or stealing somebodies work that obviously isn't yours, this is done in all industries but more the Education system and the Music and film industry, when a channel, production company or studio find a freelance or a small writer who have great ideas and a unknown, the studio can copy or plagiarise there work because they're so unknown.

Adding to this plagiarising is becoming a growing issue in the industry and continues to haunt smaller writers, especially because they will more than likely not have the money to start a case.
In any industry plagiarism is committed a lot unfortunately because it is highly illegal but could also cause problems for the industry, many Hollywood studios have admitted to plagiarised work or even copied scripts from smaller, unknown writers. It is definitely frowned upon due to the nature of it and what kind of affects is can have on certain people such as the writer, if a writers work has been copied there are certain things he/she can do, the first thing is obviously take legal action, but it isn't always that simple, big studio companies can afford huge lawyers and pay a lot of money to avoid controversy's, so when a smaller, freelance writer tests them and tries to sue the bigger, more powerful and rich company is always going to come on top and unfortunately this has happened many times and they have gotten away with it because the freelance writers just cant afford to build a case against the studio that have plagiarised there work.
Overall, In many countries plagiarism is illegal, but if it isn't illegal in a certain country, copyright sure is, so if the studio doesn't get sued for plagiarism they will more than likely get sued for copyright, this can be a very serious offence depending on what it is.
Watershed:
The watershed is a system where TV shows or films with adult content such as swearing, violence or sexual scenes can be shown after a certain time, this system was put into place so after a certain time shows with more adult themes could be shown and parents know when these are on and there children will not watch them. These types of shows that are on after the watershed tend to have various adult themes that definitely wouldn't be acceptable at a earlier time.
If a writer had his/her script shown in a TV show or Film before the watershed there could be certain repercussions for the studio and the writer. If the show showed graphic content that could possibly offend they may get a warning or if this has happened multiple times it could possibly lead to legal action. There has been certain shows that are on before 9pm that contain graphic content such as Holby City and certain 12+ rated shows that are on at 6pm such as The Simpsons. The watershed is so important for writers because if they want to add graphic content to there script they have to think about the time there script could possibly be shown on TV, George RR Martin couldn't show Game Of Thrones before the watershed because it includes graphic content in the script, if he wanted to show Game Of Thrones before the watershed he would have to take out a lot of it and replace it with more 'family friendly' scenes.
I feel the watershed works against writers because if you want your idea to be put fourth as a TV show and the script has nudity or any type of graphic content in, your slot in which your script can be shown will be a lot more competitive because there is a shorter time 9pm-12pm rather than before the watershed is shown 6am-9pm.
Overall i feel that the watershed is needed because it separates the graphic content from the family friendly content such as Doctor Who that is on not long before the watershed, adding to this i think we need the watershed because it is there to protect a younger audience from graphic content that could possibly cause harm them. Furthermore, the watershed is needed for writers so as soon as they start writing the script they know where there content is going to be shown and what time. I think it is a great idea because it helps the studio's separate the graphic content from the family friendly content.
