Conventions

Characters- Silly comical fighting style,

Camera work- long shots to show characters physical movements when fighting the bear

lighting- the lighting was natural and in daylight due to being out in the open and quite normal lighting for a comedy

surreal-fighting a bear for the John West Salmon implying that it is that good

the sounds are natural and normal sounds

setting- unorthodox setting for a comedy scene instead of City, forest near a river.

My own chosen advert - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SyRvzeNuqa4

Characters - Average working class people trying to make a living comes in contact with panda, very silly funny and slapstick comedy, turning how pandas are on its head and changing the way you look at them.

Setting - normal city places, offices, supermarket and hospital, Typical comedy setting, They used these places to represent that everybody (working class) can buy PANDA MILK and they also used these settings to represent the normality of it.

The sounds- Music in the background with (ambient sounds) voices, telephones and footsteps. I feel they used these types of day - to - day sounds because it represents that it is a average 'monday morning day'

Lighting- the lighting is very normal and day - to - day lighting effects in public places so no need for extra lighting. Also i feel they did this because it is a comedy advert and extra lighting would possibly ruin the effect that the advert is trying to give off.

Costume- the costumes are very normal, apart from the Panda costume, i feel they used the panda costume because normally Panda's are soft and calm animals but in this advert they made it ironic and different and made the Panda angry and confrontational towards the people that wont drink the PANDA MILK.

My chosen advert- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2XRUSWuCiis

Characters- The characters of the dramatic advert are normally relationships between each character whether it's family, love or a relationship with an object. In this advert the relationship is between the player and the football boot, the eagle represents the football boot again just like the comedy advert it changes your perception of what a football boot is like by representing it as a an animal (eagle)

Setting- The setting is not too visible but what you do see is that its in a field somewhere (preferably Germany, due to the Football players they have used) I feel the setting is natural and rural for a reason and its to represent the eagle and the habitat it lives in.

The sounds- The music and the ambient sounds are massive parts of making this advert look and sound interesting. The ambient sounds such as the noise of the thunder at the start really sets the dramatic tone for the rest of the advert. The beats during the advert are big and move along with the advert making it sound more effective and a better viewing for the audience.

Lighting- The lighting for this piece is very dark and every scene is edited to grey, i feel this is more a good editing effect but could also blend in with the lighting, This worked so well because along with the music it sets the scene for a good, strong advert. It also makes it much more dramatic and intense when looking at the advert.

Costumes- They use normal and average football kits for this advert and it works well because it is straight to the point and the viewer realises straight away what it is about, also the costume fits, again perfectly with what the music video is about.

EARLY FILM- NO TECHNIQUES OR NO FILM CONVENTIONS (1900s)
(180 DEGREE RULE | CONTINUITY EDITING)

1960s - TECHNIQUES USED TO CREATE MEANING

1990s- BIRTH OF DIGITAL EDITING MADE FILMMAKING ACCESSIBLE

PRESENT DAY - CGI BECOMES COMMON PLACE (MONSTERS)

Surreal Analysis-

Characters - Average working class people resting in the GYM come in contact with Old Spice Body wash, use body wash and changes there appearance. Very funny, silly witty humour.

Setting - Normal 'City' place (GYM) Typical setting for a comedy scene, They used this place to represent that everybody (working class) can buy OLD SPICE BODY WASH and they also used this setting to represent the normality of it.

The sounds- There is no music in this advert only sound effects of the cracking at the Motorbike noises, I feel they haven't used music because it would ruin the atmosphere around the advert itself.

Lighting- The lighting is very normal and  has a day - to - day lighting effect its also in a public place so no need for extra lighting. Also i feel they did this because it is a comedy advert and extra lighting would possibly ruin the effect that the advert is trying to give off.

Costume- The costumes are very normal, due to it being in a GYM hey are using sports wear, after the transformation of the characters you see the costumes are very different due to the body wash transforming them into the opposite of what there characters were before. The character transformation is vital for the advert to succeed in what it is selling.

Target audience- I feel the target audience of this advert is not situated to any type of audience, i feel it is for everybody to enjoy and watch due to the topic and theme surrounding this advert.

I feel the DRAMATIC ADVERT is the best out of the 3 due to the topic and how they have got there point across with there idea. In addition to this i feel the way this has been directed is superb, also the camera techniques they have used to make it more dramatic and action packed, i also feel a great technique they used in this advert was by getting real German Football players to star in the advert because it then makes it more renown and popular and reaches out to a much larger audience.

Overall I think the dramatic advert is much more effective for these reasons, one final reason is that the music, the filming and the editing are unbelievably well put together and really stand out to me as a whole advert.
